Opportunities to get involved

In order for the Freshwater Strategy to be successful, it needs the support of the wider regional community.

The actions outlined in the Waikato Freshwater Strategy will be further scoped and initial costings refined prior to incorporation in the Waikato Regional Council’s Draft 2018 – 2028 Long Term Plan which will then be open for submissions in 2018.

Fresh water as a priority in 2018 - 2028 Long Term Plan

Through the long term plan, we work out how to prioritise our work across a wide range of activities to make sure we deliver on a number of long term outcomes for the region. One of these priority areas is fresh water.

  • All information we receive prior to end of July 2017 will be collated, analysed and presented to council as part of first-stage long term plan discussions, scheduled for August 2017.
  • The draft long term plan will then be written between September 2017 and February 2018.

Submit on the long term plan

The community will have another opportunity to have their say in March-April 2018, when the draft long term plan goes out for formal consultation and submissions. At this point, you will be able to provide feedback on the specific actions that make up the Waikato Freshwater Strategy.

Discuss the Waikato Freshwater Strategy

If you would like to discuss the strategy further or receive a presentation for your organisation on the strategy, please don’t hesitate to contact Waikato Regional Council’s principal strategic advisor, Blair Dickie (blair.dickie@waikatoregion.govt.nz).
