Current status

The Summary of Decisions Requested was notified on 27 March 2024 and the period for making further submissions will close on 29 April 2024.

The submissions that were made on the Proposed Waikato Regional Coastal Plan and the Summary of Decisions Requested documents can be found below.

The Proposed Waikato Regional Coastal Plan was notified for public submissions on 18 August 2023 and the period for making submissions on the proposed plan closed on 14 November 2023.

Only certain persons may make a further submission, which can only be in support of, or in opposition to, any submission (or part of a submission).

The coastal plan contains policies, rules and methods to manage the use and allocation of resources in the coastal marine area.

Notification of Summary of Decisions Requested and information on making a further submission

The Summary of Decisions Requested was notified on 27 March 2024.

Certain persons may make a further submission in support of, or in opposition to, the submissions already made. For additional information on who is eligible to make a further submission, please see the information sheet below.

Your further submission must be in the prescribed form (download below). You can submit a further submission by emailing it to submissions@waikatoregion.govt.nz.

A copy of your further submission is also required to be sent to the submitter to which your further submission relates, no later than 5 working days after lodging your further submission with the Waikato Regional Council (refer clause 8A, Schedule 1, RMA).

Submissions received to Proposed Waikato Regional Coastal Plan

The submissions period closed on 14 November 2023 and 1359 submissions received of which 1252 were proforma submissions.  Follow the link below to read the submissions. Please note: the instructions below to help you download the proforma submissions. 

How to download the proforma submissions

  1. Navigate to the proforma submissions file at the bottom of the list.
  2. Download the 'Proforma submissions received to Proposed Waikato Regional Coastal Plan' file to your desktop.
  3. Open the 'Proforma submissions received to Proposed Waikato Regional Coastal Plan' file from your downloads folder with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  4. Open the 'Submissions' folder.
  5. Open the 'Inbox' folder.
  6. Open the 'Legasea proforma submissions' folder.
  7. The submissions will display in a table. You can order them into alphabetical order by clicking on the 'From' column.
  8. Open the submission you wish to read. 

Rules with immediate effect

The Proposed Waikato Regional Coastal Plan contains certain rules that will have immediate legal effect upon notification, including all associated standards, schedules, maps and definitions.

Rules relating to discharges to air, aquaculture, historic heritage, discharges to water, and water take, use, dam or divert have immediate legal effect from 18 August 2023. All other rules (with some exceptions) have legal effect from 26 October 2023.

Over the last five years, council has carried out a review of the Waikato Regional Coastal Plan to bring it into line with national and regional policy direction while ensuring it meets the needs of Waikato communities.
