Strategic Planning Network (SPN)

What is the Strategic Planning Network?

The Waikato Strategic Planning Network (SPN) began informally in the late 1990s for planners of local authorities in the region. Over time the network has evolved to include other agencies that contribute to the community wellbeing of the Waikato region.

The SPN provides a mechanism for inter-agency communication, coordination, and collaboration for those in strategic planning roles in the Waikato region. It's a great way for members to share information and resources, develop and promote good practice models, and it provides professional development, networking and bench-marking opportunities.

SPN members develop a shared understanding of regional and local community issues, and identify opportunities to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of local government.

Membership and responsibilities

Members work in strategic planning fields that have community wellbeing as a key organisational objective. Participation in the group is voluntary — the participating organisations will endeavour to make consistent personnel available to attend and contribute.

Membership may include representation by

  • Waikato Regional Council
  • territorial authorities wholly or partly in the Waikato region
  • central government agencies in the Waikato area
  • others, such as relevant non-government organisations.

Participation in the Strategic Planning Network requires members to:

  • host meetings as required
  • provide staff and resources as required
  • openly share information as discussed at Strategic Planning Network meetings
  • provide up to date contact details for organisational representatives as changes occur.
