Progress towards achievement of Environment Waikato's Regional Policy Statement objectives: Natural Hazards

About the document

This report provides an overview of international, national and regional trends that are influencing natural hazard management. In general terms, the risks from natural hazards are increasing due to a combination of more frequent and intense weather events, population growth and land use changes (including upper catchment vegetation clearance and development within hazard-prone
areas). Within the Waikato region, these trends are further influenced by a growing awareness of the importance of land use planning in hazard management and a growing public expectation of comprehensive and integrated hazard management.
