About this report

Red Admiral Ecology was contracted by Waikato Regional Council to develop a protocol for surveying the distribution of wetland avifauna species in the region.

This report describes Proof of Concept work, was carried out by assessing species at two wetlands: 

  • Toreparu Wetland - An intact coastal wetland in the western Waikato.
  • Waikawau Wetland - A fragmented mosaic of wetland habitats on the Coromandel Peninsula, with a history of predator control and community observer monitoring.
